Doing Good to All

“Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward. “(NIV Mark 9: 41)

Meditation

In Galatians 6: 9-10 (NIV), Paul said: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

As we learn to become disciple of Jesus Christ and engage in the intentional discipleship mission, let us remember that we are not asked to do great things for others, things that are beyond our power. We are asked to give the simple things any man can give, such as the simple act of offering a cup of water to those who thirst. As we reflect on the miracle in which Jesus fed the 5,000 with five loaves and two fishes (Mark 6: 30-44), let us also remember our Lord Jesus Christ’ considerateness, love and compassion for all people.

Prayer:

Father God, source of every blessing and giver of every good gift, we thank You for the revelation of Yourself in Jesus and for every glimpse we have of Your nature. At this festive season, may we in turn be a source of blessing to all with whom we come into contact. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
