POSITION SUMMARY

 

This position will serve as part of the pastoral and ministry staff team, focusing on the spiritual formation, discipleship, and holistic care of children (ages 3–12). This role involves working with the Pastoral Ministry Team, partnering with parents, volunteers, and the wider church community to nurture children in Christ, cultivate intergenerational connections, and equip them to live out their faith in daily life. This position will work closely with the Church School, Boys and Girls Brigade Captains, Worship and Music Teams, Parish and Small Group Leaders.

 

This position reports to the Pastor-in-charge and the Local Church Executive Committee (via Discipleship and Nurture, Church School Superintendent or Equivalent Christian Education Committee).

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

 

  • Teaching, Discipleship & Outreach

    • Vision casting and providing direction together with church school superintendent to the children ministry in WMCKL

    • Develop age-appropriate curriculum that integrates Scripture, Methodist doctrine, and practical applications in the Church School.

    • Review, and be involved, where possible, in the curriculum development and implementation of discipleship and formation of children across the WMCKL’s various organisations (e.g. Boys Brigade, Girl’s Brigade, Kindergarten, Child Care etc.)

    • Foster spiritual growth through creative storytelling, music, prayer, and creative worship activities

    • Engage and outreach within children communities around the vicinity of WMCKL to promote Children Ministry and its activities

    • Together with volunteers, plan, coordinate, and lead weekly Sunday School and children’s worship gatherings

 

  • Programs Development & Events

    • Organize seasonal programs (e.g., Vacation Bible School, Christmas / Easter events, camps).

    • Support intergenerational initiatives that connects children with youth, adults and seniors.

    • Ensure programs are contextualized for an urban multicultural setting in Kuala Lumpur.

    • Work across organisations to harmonize WMCKL’s children’s ministry.

 

  • Volunteer Recruitment & Training

    • Recruit, equip, and mentor volunteers to serve effectively in children’s ministry.

    • Provide training in teaching, child safety, and pastoral care.

    • build a cultural of teamwork, encouragement, and accountability.

 

  • Pastoral Care & Family Engagement 

    • Partner with parent to support faith formation at home.

    • provide pastoral care for children and families in times of need.

    • Encourage family participation in worship and church life.

 

  • Administration and Compliance 

    • Manage ministry budget, resources, and scheduling together with Church School Superintendent.

    • Ensure compliance with child protection and safeguarding policies

    • Maintain clear communications with church leadership and ministry teams

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ with a clear sense of calling to children’s ministry.

  • Alignment with the vision, mission, and values of WMCKL and the Methodist Church in Malaysia.

  • Diploma or degree in theology, Christian education, or related field (preferred).

  • Agree to pursuing or maintaining a Lay Preacher’s license with WMCKL.

  • Experience in children’s ministry, teaching, or education.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-staff, multi-generational church environment.
