Re-igniting Intentional Discipleship: From Member to Disciple
The need to re-ignite Intentional Discipleship and Disciplemaking in our Wesley Methodist Church Kuala Lumpur (WMCKL) is a clarion call. It is vital to re-examine our church programs in order to re-align WMCKL back to her fundamental calling, i.e., the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) of Disciple Making.
As we approach the year 2020, our church needs to return to what is most important for WMCKL which was planted in the heart of the nation’s capital to witness for Christ with the intention of reaching out to the least, the last and the lost (Luke 7) and to disciple every member so that they will personally own and carry out the Great Commission themselves, becoming true Disciple Makers of Christ and producing other disciples (2 Timothy 2:2).
In order to re-ignite our church to become fully an Intentional Disciple Making Church (IDMC), there are five major shifts that we must engage in.
- Biblical Foundation: From Reaching To Making
- Intentional Leadership: From Informing To Equipping
- Relational Environment: From Activity To Relationship
- Reproducible Process: From Accumulating To Deploying
- Church Alignment: From Program To Purpose
This is a high call and requires much intentional re-examining and re-focusing of all our activities to bring about a true shift to become an Intentional Disciple Making Church (IDMC).
The Three Stages of an Intentional Disciple Making Church (IDMC)
Our Core Values
At the heart of WMCKL are three visible essentials or Core Values that characterize our church members as faithful disciples (ABC): Authentic in Worship, Breakthrough in Nurturing and Courage in Service.
Our visible essentials or core values (ABC) of true discipleship can only be achieved by cultivating the underlying invisible values of holiness through brokenness of spirit, spiritual growth through reading and obeying the Word, courage and faithfulness in serving God, grace and perseverance in relating to others and good stewardship of personal resources for extending the Kingdom of God.
